3D casts are made by taking a mould of your baby's foot or hand using a premium non-toxic seaweed based impression powder (Alginate) which is mixed there and then, its non-toxic and skin safe even on the most delicate skin. 

It’s commonly used in the dental industry and allows the moulds to be taken rapidly, giving detailed casts. The impression powder only takes a couple of minutes to set and it doesn't matter if your child wriggles, or needs a feed, and they don't have to be asleep. 

Casting sessions usually take between 30-60 minutes depending on how many casts are being taken. I then take the moulds away to create the life cast by using a high-quality premium plaster, and finish it as requested. 

I like to allow an hour for the casting session, however sessions can be completed in a shorter period of time. Large family pieces including bumps take longer as they use a slightly different secondary mould technique.

The casting session can either take place with me in Sutton, or I can come to you (please ask as travel charges apply depending on distance).

Life casting can be done at any age, but the older they get the more they tend to wriggle!

Due to the nature of life casting, hands are very tricky and cannot always be guaranteed. Because of this, feet are generally cast and for hands I take additional casts during the session. The cost for hands is refundable should the hand casting be unsuccessful.

Old clothes (or nothing special) with sleeves and trouser legs that can easily be rolled up are helpful and I provide sheets in order to protect you. Generally speaking, it is relatively mess free. We would also advise you to bring any snacks or a favourite toy for your child as a distraction. Especially for ages 6 months - 2 years.

The finished casts are usually ready for collection/delivery after around 6-8 weeks. Larger pieces (Family tree, Links, Celebration casts, Bump, Torso may take longer). The drying of the casts is a process which cannot be rushed, but I can assure you the wait will be worth it.

I have a wide choice of frames to choose from, in different colours and finishes. I’d bring them all with me if I could but that’s not possible. Before the casting session, I’ll talk you through the options and then bring along some samples to refine your choice.

The world is your oyster. I have all of the traditional colours that I’ll bring along with me but if there’s something different you’d like, I’m sure we could do it.

Losing a loved one can be a difficult time. However, capturing a memory in a cast is still possible. I am happy to work with funeral directors or midwives, if you feel this would be easier than speaking to me directly. Please enquire for a quote.
